Safeline provides a 24/7 toll free number that offers support, safety planning, information and referrals as well as in person support and legal, economic and medical advocacy.

Advocate Staff Position Opening

 

Safeline, Inc. is seeking a full-time Advocate to provide direct service advocacy for survivors of domestic violence, stalking and sexual abuse in Orange County and northern Windsor County.

 

Safeline is dedicated to ending physical, emotional and sexual violence against women and children and other victims through direct service, education, advocacy and social change. The successful applicant will have an empathy for the unique needs of victims. Safeline provides services to all victims of domestic and sexual violence and does not discriminate because of any aspect of their identity.

 

The position is performed onsite in the Safeline office. General standard hours are 8:30am – 4:00pm. This position is included in a rotating hotline coverage schedule potentially with some holiday and weekend hours.

 

Job Responsibilities: Provide direct support and advocacy services for survivors of physical, sexual and emotional violence as well as for their children. Advocacy will be provided through crises calls and in-person meetings as well as court advocacy and assistance filling out protection orders. Seek to increase accessibility and utilization of Safeline services through community outreach to underserved populations. Manage data collections and using database software for grant reporting. 

 

Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent in work experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired.  Previous work in a crisis oriented environment preferred.  Oral and written communication skills necessary. Flexibility and willingness to take on responsibility and new tasks. Ability to remain calm under pressure and relate to a variety of people in a non-judgmental, empathetic, confidential, and competent manner.  Computer skills required. Prior experience with data entry preferred.  Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be trauma informed. Reliable transportation is required to travel to the sheriff’s office, court, hospital and meetings as necessary.

Safeline serves domestic and sexual violence victims in Orange County and the northern Windsor towns of Sharon, Royalton, Bethel, Stockbridge and Rochester. Our board members live in these towns and share their expertise with Safeline's executive director during our monthly meeting.
